Talk to women about Plan B® before they need it.

Approximately 2.7 million unplanned pregnancies occur each year, of which 54% result in abortion.3 More than half of all abortions are a result of contraceptive failure.4 Unplanned pregnancies that result in abortions may be significantly reduced with more awareness and availability of EC.4

All women are at risk of contraceptive failure, but only one third of all reproductive-age women have heard of EC according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)6

  • Only 20% of OB-GYNs reported that they include EC as part of their routine contraceptive counseling, although 8 in 10 report prescribing EC in 2000.

  • 34% of reproductive-age women have never heard of EC.

  • Among the 66% of women who have heard of EC, most do not know much about it, and only 5% learned about it from their healthcare professional.

Make sure that your patients know about Plan B® before they need it by encouraging counseling at your practice.
