Things do not always go as planned. She might have forgotten to take her pill, or another birth control method she used might have failed. Now you can give her a second chance to prevent an unplanned pregnancy with Plan B®.

Plan B® is the only FDA-approved emergency contraceptive (EC) composed of progestin-only tablets. It is a safe and well-tolerated EC that helps prevent pregnancy after contraceptive failure, unprotected sex, or sexual assault.

  • Plan B® reduces the risk of pregnancy by up to 89% when taken within 72 hours after contraceptive failure or unprotected sex. However, Plan B® is more effective the sooner it is taken, especially within the first 24 hours of unprotected sex.

  • Plan B® is simple and safe to take. In fact, Plan B® is proven to have a superior safety profile than the Yuzpe regimen (levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol).

  • Plan B® is not RU-486 (the abortion pill) and will not affect an existing pregnancy.

  • Plan B® is well supported within the medical community. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) believes that efforts should be made to increase women’s access to EC, including providing women advance prescriptions at their annual visits. 2

Approximately 2.7 million unplanned pregnancies occur each year in the United States, of which 54% result in abortion.3 And more than half of all abortions are a result of contraceptive failure.4 Unplanned pregnancies may be significantly reduced with more awareness of, and the availability of, EC.4
