Things do not always go as planned. She might have forgotten to take her pill, or another birth control method she used might have failed. Now you can give her a second chance to prevent an unplanned pregnancy with Plan B®.

Plan B® (levonorgestrel), 0.75 mg, is the only FDA-approved emergency contraceptive (EC) composed of progestin-only tablets. It is a safe and well-tolerated EC that helps prevent pregnancy after contraceptive failure, unprotected sex, or sexual assault.

  • Plan B® is approved as an over-the-counter option for those 18 years and older.

  • Plan B® prescription required for women 17 years and younger.

  • Plan B® is available behind the counter at the pharmacy and sold under the supervision of the pharmacy staff.

  • One Plan B® package for both prescription and OTC use. There is a new NDC number for the new Dual Label package: NDC 51285-769-93. The NDC number on the prescription only Plan B® package is NDC 51285-038-93.

  • The risk of pregnancy is reduced by up to 89% when Plan B® is taken within 72 hours after contraceptive failure or unprotected sex.1 However, Plan B® is more effective the sooner it is taken, especially within the first 24 hours of unprotected sex.1

  • Since Plan B® is proven to be more effective the sooner it is taken,1 timing is critical. Stocking Plan B® will help ensure that EC is available for women when they need it.

  • You can order Plan B® through your wholesaler. For more information on ordering, call the Plan B® Information Center toll-free number, 1-800-330-1271.

As a pharmacist, you play an important role in patient education and women may come to you for information on EC. Key messages and talking points can help you know how to anticipate and answer their questions about EC.
