Timing is critical to the efficacy of Plan B®.

Pharmacy access to emergency contraception (EC) is currently available in more than 30 countries.4 In these countries, women are able to get EC faster because they are not required to have a prescription. Plan B® is now available for consumers age 18 or older, but a prescription is still required for women 17 or younger. Recognizing the importance of pharmacy access to emergency contraception here in America, pharmacists in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Washington can become certified and trained to provide Plan B® directly to patients. The requirements for certification vary from state to state.
